FRANCONIA, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire’s Cannon Mountain ski area is celebrating the 80th anniversary of its aerial tramway.

The tramway is offering a commemorative coin to the first 500 guests on Friday.

People presenting a Granite State ID may obtain a free ticket, normally $18, to ride the tram from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to access Echo Lake Beach from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The 80-passenger cable cars bring visitors back and forth to the 4,080-foot summit of Cannon Mountain in under 10 minutes. The original tramway operated until 1980, when it was replaced.
