Sen. Jeff Merkley said he’s “worried” about the future of abortion now that Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, a crucial swing vote on the high court, announced his retirement Wednesday.
“I’m worried about Roe v. Wade,” Mr. Merkley tweeted Wednesday afternoon.
The Oregon Democrat added that Justice Kennedy’s retirement is “a disaster for everyone who believes in the ’We the People’ vision of the Constitution.”

Justice Kennedy, 81, announced in a letter to President Trump that he would be stepping down from the court on July 31. The president said he would pick a successor from the previously released list of 25 candidates.
Mr. Merkley said a nominee shouldn’t be considered until after the November primaries.
No nominee should be considered until AFTER the election.
