Chelsea Clinton criticized Attorney General Jeff Sessions online Tuesday evening after he jokingly referred to family separations during a speech at a Los Angeles event.
Mr. Sessions, speaking for the Criminal Justice Legal Foundation, criticized the left’s “lunatic fringe” for their rhetoric in opposition to President Trump’s immigration policies.
He explained that many who oppose the president are elite who live in “gated communities” and speak at events with heavy security.
“They like a little security around themselves,” Mr. Sessions said, “And if you try to scale the fence, believe me, they’d be even too happy to have you arrested and separated from your children.”
The crowd laughed and applauded Mr. Sessions’ comments.
Ms. Clinton clapped back at Mr. Session’s comments on Twitter.
You want to know what indecency and incivility sound like? People laughing and applauding at the “joke” about forcibly separating parents from their children. https://t.co/4A81UKymPY
