MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Republican Gov. Phil Scott has made a formal request for federal disaster relief funds to assist five Vermont counties in repairing public infrastructure after a May storm.
Scott made the request Friday. A preliminary assessment by the Federal Emergency Management Agency identified $1.29 million in public infrastructure damage across the northern portion of the state. Chittenden, Grand Isle, Lamoille, Orange and Orleans counties exceeded the $3.68 per capita threshold needed to qualify for assistance. FEMA is assessing damage in Franklin County to determine whether that county qualifies as well.
High winds and rainstorms on May 4 and 5 downed power lines and left tens of thousands across the state without power.
