GRAFTON, N.Y. (AP) - Charles the emu is back home in an upstate New York bird sanctuary after spending the week wandering the countryside.

The ostrich-like bird escaped his fenced enclosure at the Berkshire Bird Paradise in rural Grafton near the Vermont border Tuesday. Peter Dubacher, who runs the sanctuary, put out the word to the public to be on the lookout for the wayward bird.

Dubacher said on Facebook that Charles was captured Friday morning.

Dubacher says Charles is very friendly and enjoys back rubs, chicken feed and vegetables and responds to his name.
