RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) - The swollen Wind River in central Wyoming is causing flooding of mostly agricultural land in Fremont County.
Heavy rain in recent days has pushed the river, which is already running high with mountain snowmelt runoff, over its banks.
The National Weather Service says the river was more than foot (30.5 centimeters) above flood stage Wednesday morning. The river crested about 2 feet (61 centimeters) above flood stage.
The river is expected to remain above flood stage until midday Thursday.
Most of the flooding is occurring between Riverton and Boysen Reservoir.
In southwest Wyoming, the Green River rose above flood stage Wednesday afternoon near La Barge and was expected to continue rising Thursday. Rainfall of up to 2 inches (5 centimeters) fell over the last several days in the area.
