OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Officials say thousands of chickens were killed south of Olympia after a chicken house caught fire at Draper Valley Farms.

The Olympian reports fire crews responded to the farm at about 5:15 p.m. Monday in Tenino.

Draper Valley Farms spokesman Joe Forsthoffer says the blaze destroyed one chicken house, killing about 25,000, 30-day-old chickens.

He says firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading.

He says the Tenino property is home to two farms, each with six chicken houses.

Forsthoffer said the fire is under investigation.
