MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A hiking trail that would run from North Dakota to Maine is one step closer to getting the necessary funding.

Last week legislation that would fund the North Country Scenic Trail unanimously passed in the U.S. House of Representatives. Vermont Public Radio reports that currently the trail ends in Crown Point, New York. Under the expansion plan it would connect to the Vermont’s Long Trail and the Appalachian Trail.

Currently roughly 2,000 miles of the 4,700 mile trail is currently on roads.

The legislation needs to pass the U.S. Senate and get the signature of President Donald Trump.
