New operator takes over water utility plagued by complaints

WEST MONROE, La. (AP) - A new operator is taking over a water utility in northeast Louisiana that’s been plagued by customer complaints.

Northeast Louisiana Utilities tells local news outlets that it will take over the Greater Ouachita (WAH’-shih-taw) Water Co. beginning Monday.

Greater Ouachita last year saw numerous complaints about brown water and inaccurate bills last year. The utility has been operated until now by Inframark, a Pennsylvania company formerly known as Severn Trent.

The changeover was originally announced at the end of last year.

Ouachita Parish Police Jury President Scotty Robinson is applauding the transition, saying he believes local management can help improve service.

Jeff McNew, who owns Northeast Louisiana Utilities, has worked in utility operations for more than two decades.
