LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Los Angeles traffic officer hit by a car and killed while issuing a parking citation last week has been identified as a 45-year-old resident of the city.

Authorities say Officer Gregory Park was struck Friday morning in Van Nuys. He died at a hospital.

The Daily News reports Monday that Park is just the second Department of Transportation officer in city history who died while on duty. Officer Henry Medina was hit by a car and killed in 1997 while impounding a vehicle.

The crash involving Park is under investigation.

Mayor Eric Garcetti offered his condolences to Park’s family.
