LAVALLETTE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities have freed a tugboat that was stranded on a sandbar off a New Jersey beach for more than 10 hours.

The Coast Guard says two other tugs were able to pull the vessel off the sand as the tide rose off Lavallette on Tuesday afternoon.

Lavallette Beach Patrol Capt. Bob Tormollan tells the Asbury Park Press the four crewmen aboard the boat were pumping sand for beach replenishment when a cable snapped and got wrapped in the propeller. Winds pushed the vessel toward land.

The Coast Guard says tugboat was not damaged.
