President Trump blasted the NFL and high-paid Commissioner Roger Goodell Friday night for halting implementation of its policy that requires players to stand for the national anthem.
“The NFL National Anthem Debate is alive and well again - can’t believe it!” Mr. Trump tweeted. “Isn’t it in contract that players must stand at attention, hand on heart? The $40,000,000 Commissioner must now make a stand. First time kneeling, out for game. Second time kneeling, out for season/no pay!”
The president was responding to the NFL’s announcement Thursday that it would freeze its new policy requiring players to remain standing during the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner, if they’re on the field.
The NFL Players Association challenged the policy last week, filing a grievance against the league.
