COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina’s unemployment rate continued its gradual drop last month.

The Department of Employment and Workforce said in a news release Friday that unemployment in South Carolina dropped to 3.8 percent in June. That’s down from 4 percent in May and 4.2 percent in April.

The national unemployment rate in June edged up slightly to 4 percent.



State officials say the leisure and hospitality sector added 4,900 jobs since last month, as the state’s busy summer tourist season continues. Education and health services jobs were also up by 1,500 positions, while manufacturing added 700 jobs.

Professional and business services were down by 4,800 jobs, and the construction sector decreased by 1,600.
