UTICA, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi woman tells authorities she was stuck in an overturned car for nearly 12 hours before she could free herself.

Hinds County sheriff’s Major Pete Luke says the woman was found Sunday evening on the side of a rural road near Utica after she finally escaped the vehicle, which was lying belly-up in a creek.

He says someone passing by called emergency dispatchers, reporting a woman on the roadside who appeared disoriented and injured. The unnamed woman was taken to a hospital with injuries that did not appear life-threatening.

Luke said Monday that he doesn’t know the cause of the accident.
