, (AP) — Benito Garcia and Jeffrey Colon combined for a shutout as the DSL Mets1 defeated the DSL Nationals 5-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday.
Colon (2-0) went three scoreless innings, allowing two hits while striking out two and walking one to pick up the win. Pedro Gonzalez (2-1) went five innings, allowing four runs and six hits in the Dominican Summer League game. He also struck out three and walked three.
In the top of the first, DSL Mets1 took the lead on a double-play groundout by Andres Regnault that scored Malvin Nunez. The DSL Mets1 then added three runs in the second and a run in the sixth. In the second, Nunez drove in two runs and Fidel Almario drove in one, while Patricio Diaz hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Juan De La Rosa in the sixth.
The DSL Nationals were held scoreless for the second time this season, while the DSL Mets1’s staff recorded their fourth shutout of the year.
