OPINION:
President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, is raising the political ire of the left — and by left, I mean anyone to the left of common sense. Kabuki theater is on full display inside the Beltway.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said, in response to Mr. Trump’s choice, “This nomination could alter the balance of the court in favor of powerful special interests and against working families for a generation, and would take away labor, civil and human rights from millions of Americans.” Does any American with common sense actually believe this?
We are watching the self-immolation of the Democratic Party. The “special interests” to which Mr. Schumer refers are you and me — the common man and woman who are sick and tired of the political drama on Capitol Hill. The hubris of politicos such as Mr. Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, et al, exposes the deepest fears of entitled politicians.
America’s Founders believed the Supreme Court to be the weakest of all three branches of government. They did not intend that its decisions would become “law” that would subvert the power and constitutional authority delegated to Congress.
The proof that Washington and the federal bureaucracy is out of control and far removed from their constitutional moorings is evident by the rants of entitled politicians, deep-state bureaucracy and a self-neutered Congress.
There is only one way to restore federalism and power to the people and the states: by calling a convention of states. It is time for the people to utilize Article V of the Constitution to come together and work toward fixing the federal structure, and finally put the three branches of government back into their tiny, well-defined constitutional box.
