BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals is gearing up for a possible strike at the UVM Medical Center.

A spokeswoman tells WCAX-TV that nurses will deliver a strike notice on Monday.

The nurses’ current contract ends on July 9, and the plan calls for a two-day strike.

Michael Carrese of the UVM Medical Center said officials are working with a federal mediator to keep the lines of communication open.

He said the medical system owes it to the community “to keep working as hard as possible to reach agreement and avoid the disruption a strike would cause.”
