SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - The city of South Bend is selling a long-vacant building that once housed the College Football Hall of Fame to a local developer.
South Bend’s Redevelopment Commission amended an agreement Thursday under which JSK Development subsidiary Southhold will buy the downtown building for $525,000. The city had reduced the building’s original price of $1.2 million.
Southhold plans to find a tenant for the building or move its offices there.
The hall of fame museum closed in 2012 after 17 years in South Bend and moved to Atlanta following years of low attendance.
The South Bend Tribune reports that the deal signals the end of a long saga for the city. Once the sale closes, it will bring the building back onto the city’s tax rolls.
