PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence police continue to investigate a weekend shooting that left a 27-year-old man dead.
Police on Monday identified the victim of the Sunday morning shooting as city resident Tyrone Williams.
Police say Williams was in a car with his girlfriend shortly after midnight Sunday when someone fired on them. Williams tried to flee on foot but was chased and shot again. The woman was not injured.
Williams was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Police say they are working several leads, and the shooting may be linked to a previous non-fatal shooting in the city. They think Williams knew his assailant.
The death was the city’s sixth homicide of the year.
