SPINGFIELD, N.H. (AP) - Investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that razed a New Hampshire lumber mill.

The fire broke out around 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Durgin and Crowell Lumber Company in Springfield. WMUR-TV reports more than 75 firefighters from 20 different communities responded to the blaze.

Fire officials say no injuries were reported. Springfield Fire Chief Peter Lacaillade says the design of the burning building made it impossible to send firefighters inside, so firefighters had to fight the flames from the exterior.

The building was still smoldering Thursday morning as they inspected damage.

Lacaillade says investigators may not be able to determine what the cause of the fire was due to extensive damage.

Owners say they will try to find other duties for roughly 20 displaced employees.
