RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Light snow has closed schools in some counties in western North Carolina and has delayed the start of classes in the central part of the state.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for nine counties in western North Carolina for Tuesday until 10 a.m.
About 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) of snow was expected in most areas, with up to 2 inches (5 centimeters) in the Boone area.
Light snow was reported in the Raleigh-Durham area, prompting a number of school districts to delay classes by two hours.
Duke Energy reported only about 500 customers without service Tuesday morning, most in Polk County.
