OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Free lodging has become available to adult cancer patients who travel more than 40 miles for treatment in Omaha.

An opening ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday morning at the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge. There are 31 other Hope Lodges around the country, including one in Iowa City, Iowa.

The Omaha World-Herald reports that the $11.5 million lodge has 32 rooms for patients and their caretakers. It’s estimated the lodge will provide more than 10,500 nights of free lodging a year, saving those patients $1.3 million in hotel costs.

Guests will be referred to the lodge by social workers or caseworkers
