OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - A former business manager for a Mississippi school district is accused of taking $1,800 of its money for himself.
News outlets report that Oxford police arrested 46-year-old Charles Rainey on Wednesday on one count of embezzlement.
Police say on the department’s Facebook page that the Oxford School District filed a complaint accusing him of taking the money to pay personal bills and to pay himself extra.
The Oxford Eagle reports that he was the district’s business manager and left the district Nov. 1 after about a year.
He was released from the Lafayette County Jail on $3,000 bond.
A message left Friday at a number for a Charles Rainey in Oxford was not immediately returned.
It was not clear whether Rainey has an attorney who could comment.
