MARINETTE, Wis. (AP) - The former Knitting Mills building in Marinette has been destroyed by fire.

A worker in the building now used for cold storage tried to put out the fire as it began Thursday, but then called for help. About 700,000 gallons of water was used to put out the flames.

An excavator was brought in once the roof collapsed to help firefighters get at the fire underneath. Officials say the building is a total loss.
