ALBANY, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia man has died in a fire at a vacant theater.

Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler tells WALB-TV he believes 41-year-old Michael Jason Lewis died Wednesday morning from smoke and soot inhalation. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Albany Fire Department Interim Battalion Chief Wesley Wells said it’s unlikely anyone inside would have survived the fire.

The theatre was built in 1927 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. There have been multiple attempts to restore the building.
