APEX, N.C. (AP) - Three hunters stranded in a boat in North Carolina have been rescued from a frozen creek.

News outlets report multiple crews responded to Beaver Creek, near the waterfowl impoundment area east of Jordan Lake, in Apex late Monday morning. The duck hunters had broken ice to reach their spot, and were stranded when the water froze over. Officials say they then lost a paddle.

Hannah Shively with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission says the hunters showed signs of the onset of hypothermia. Paramedics checked them at the scene, and then released them.

Shively says the hunters do not appear to have committed any violations.

Their boat was towed back to shore.
