A lot of people are taking President Trump’s “sh—hole countries” comment out of context and cashing in on it for their own glory (“Hillary Clinton condemns Trump’s ’ignorant,’ ’racist’ ’sh—hole’ comment,” Web, Jan. 12). I am an African, and I can tell you, Mr. Trump is not a racist. Those calling him one are the racists. For instance, will all those whites calling him a racist allow their children to marry black people? Or will they welcome black sons- and daughters-in-law in their houses? How many black people occupy significant positions in their employ? These are questions for thought.

The word Mr. Trump used is daily American slang for something people are fed up with. Yet people are angry that Mr. Trump called African countries and Haiti that word. Why should they be? They should have focused on why these countries are considered such. In countries such as Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, etc., people are suffering and can barely afford daily basic necessities. Yet there you have people and politicians privately stacking up billions of dollars and pounds in their basements, boxes and foreign banks. Such countries are not ’sh—holes’? News media have essentially called Nigeria and other African countries this word without actually using the word. So why are they not being called racist?

Mr. Trump is not a politician. He is a businessman who is lucky to have been be elected president. His policies are business-based; they are not politically correct. People seem not to understand that. Not everyone will like his policies, just as not everyone liked President Obama’s policies.
