A day before undergoing his first medical checkup as commander in chief, President Trump said Thursday that he expects a clean bill of health.
“I think it’s going to go very well,” Mr. Trump, 71, said when reporters asked about the upcoming physical exam. He added that he would be “surprised if it doesn’t.”
Mr. Trump will be evaluated Friday at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The White House said a report on the exam will be made public.
The exam will be conducted by Dr. Ronnie Jackson, a rear admiral in the U.S. Navy who also served as then-President Barack Obama’s physician.
Dr. Jackson will release a statement after the exam Friday and field questions from reporters Tuesday, said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Mr. Trump’s physical and mental health have been questioned after tell-all book “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” portrayed him as unstable and possibly unfit for office.
The White House has fiercely pushed back against the book and defended every aspect of Mr. Trump’s health.
During the campaign, his physician Dr. Harold Bernstein vouched that if elected, Mr. Trump would be “the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.”
