WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - The North Carolina Medical Board has revoked a doctor’s license, saying he failed to follow state standards on dispensing opioids and other painkilling drugs.
The Winston-Salem Journal reported the board revoked the license of Dr. James Stewart Campbell of Clemmons in December. The board cited the deaths of at least three patients Campbell treated.
The 74-year-old Campbell represented himself at an October hearing. Campbell said Monday the board’s decision was unfair and he did not get a fair trial.
Campbell refused to sign a consent order. Campbell said he defended himself because he was about to retire and didn’t have the money to hire a lawyer. He will not appeal.
He says he’s confident that none of the three patients died from an opioid prescription he provided.
