THE DALLES, Ore. (AP) - Authorities say a 4-year-old boy died after being rescued from the middle of a frozen pond in Maupin, Oregon.

The Wasco County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy responding to a report of a possible drowning extracted the boy from the pond and immediately began CPR. A helicopter took the child to a Bend hospital, where he died Monday night.

The sheriff’s office said Wednesday there’s no indication of foul play. The boy’s name was being withheld pending notification of extended family.
