MADERA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say California Highway Patrol officers shot and wounded a man who charged at them with a knife following a freeway chase.
Officials say the pursuit began Saturday when the suspect was seen speeding in Madera County north of Fresno.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kayla Serrato says the man eventually pulled over, exited his car and came at officers with a knife in his hands.
Serrato says a stun gun proved ineffective in restraining the man and that’s when officers opened fire, striking him several times.
The Fresno Bee says the man, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital in unknown condition. No officers were hurt.
