LANCASTER, N.H. (AP) - Authorities say ice chunks and water from an overflowing river in northern New Hampshire spilled across a parking lot and washed into the basement of the town building in Lancaster.

The Caledonian Record reports a fast thaw from summer-like temperatures on Wednesday also flooded the lower level of the Lancaster Police Station.

Officials had been keeping an eye on a large ice jam on the Israel River, with chunks of ice almost to the top of a bridge.

They said two blasts Thursday night put about 15 inches of water in the town building basement.

Clothing and other items held by Partners in Health, a statewide community-based program that rents the bottom space of the town building, was ruined by the flooding.
