BEAUMONT, Calif. (AP) - A San Bernardino school district policeman has been arrested for allegedly pulling a gun on a gardener who found his cellphone and knocking him unconscious.

Alejandro Brown was arrested on Feb. 7 and is out on bail. He’s charged with assault and battery.

It’s not clear whether he has an attorney.

Antonio Juarez, who’s a gardener, tells KCBS-TV that he found a phone near a highway ramp in Beaumont and was planning to answer it if the owner called.

Instead, Brown showed up.

Brown told authorities he’d tracked the phone to the location.

Juarez says Brown pulled a gun, identified himself as a police officer, ordered him to get the phone from his truck, then knocked him out.

Brown has been placed on administrative leave by the school district.
