CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The West Virginia House has voted 84-14 for legislation requiring state agencies to propose cutting two old rules whenever they adopt a new one.
The legislation, which goes next to the Senate, says when agencies submit a new or revised rule to the Legislative Rule-Making Review Committee for approval, they also list two proposed sections, subsections or smaller component that could be repealed.
Delegate Ron Walters, a Charleston Republican, says the state has more than 100,000 regulations, some conflicting, and this will give the state agencies a chance to think about which need to be removed.
He says nobody is going to try to kill safety regulations.
Delegate Barbara Fleischauer, a Morgantown Democrat, say this will create more work for staff who write rules responding to bills the Legislature passes.
