HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Twenty children escaped a suspicious fire at a South Carolina after-school program.

The Island Packet reports that a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report says the children were evacuated Wednesday following a fire in a bathroom. No one was injured.

The report says an employee saw smoke and called emergency officials before putting out the flames with a fire extinguisher. He told deputies he believed “foul play” was the cause of the fire, an assessment with which a fire inspector concurred.

Two children were interviewed, but said they were unaware how the fire started. No matches or lighters were found at the scene.
