KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) - Hurricane Irma left more than 2.5 million cubic yards of debris in the Florida Keys. Five months later, it’s nearly all been collected.
Monroe County officials said Thursday they’ve done a final collection on a majority of the islands and will make a final pass through on a few more, including Big Pine and No Name Keys.
Officials warned it is now illegal to put hurricane debris along all roads in the Keys. Instead, it must be stored in regular trash bins or brought to one of the county’s three transfer stations for free disposal for a few more weeks.
