BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A Baton Rouge police officer has been arrested on charges stemming from an off-duty car crash that killed a 1-year-old girl last year.
The Baton Rouge Police Department said in a statement that 28-year-old Christopher Manuel was jailed Friday on charges of negligent homicide and speeding.
Sgt. L’Jean Mckneely, a department spokesman, says Manuel was off duty when the deadly crash occurred on Oct. 12.
Police said Manuel was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette and trying to make a left turn at a green light when his vehicle struck the passenger side of a car carrying four adults and three children. The infant, Seyaira Stephens, later died at a hospital.
Mckneely says Manuel was placed on administrative leave after the crash.
