LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say a woman was killed and two other people suffered serious injuries in a crash that tied up traffic for hours on a major Los Angeles highway.

City News Service reports the collision happened early Sunday when a Mini Cooper stopped for unknown reasons in lanes on Interstate 405.

The car was slammed from behind by a Nissan Sentra going about 65 mph (105 kph).

The two people in the Mini and the lone occupant of the Nissan were rushed to a hospital. A 29-year-old woman, the passenger in the Mini, later died.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
