SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A Farmington man has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for voluntary manslaughter and a firearms offense.
Prosecutors say 21-year-old Sage Andrew Yazzie also was sentenced Thursday to three years of supervised release.
Yazzie was arrested in March 2016 on a criminal complaint charging him with killing a tribal member on the Navajo Nation in New Mexico’s San Juan County a month earlier.
According to the criminal complaint, Yazzie entered a residence in Huerfano and shot the victim in the head with a handgun during an argument.
Yazzie was charged with first-degree murder and using and carrying a firearm in relation to a crime of violence.
In June 2017, Yazzie pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
