BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say the driver of an emergency vehicle that struck the back of a pickup truck killing a woman had been on duty for 22 hours.
Beaufort County Attorney Tom Keaveny says paramedics are often on shifts where they work 24 hours and then have 48 hours off. Their 24-hour shifts include time to rest.
Authorities say 42-year-old Stacey Dyer died after the Chevrolet Suburban emergency supervisor’s vehicle slammed into the back of the pickup truck she was in on U.S. Highway 21 near Beaufort on Nov. 17.
The Highway Patrol told The Island Packet of Hilton Head that troopers are still investigating the wreck and no charges have been filed.
