SCOOBA, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi community college is naming another college’s vice president as its president.

East Mississippi Community College announced Wednesday that Scott Alsobrooks will take over early next year at the Scooba-based college.

Alsobrooks has been vice president of economic and community development at Pearl River Community College since 2011. He was workforce education director at Pearl River for six years before that, previously working at the University of Southern Mississippi.

The new president holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Mississippi State University and a master’s and a doctorate from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Board of Trustees Chairman Jimmie Moore says trustees interviewed five finalists.

Thomas Huebner, East Mississippi’s former president, resigned to become president at Meridian Community College.

Athletic Director Randall Bradberry has been serving as interim leader.
