DANBURY, Conn. (AP) - Officials say a gun scare at a Connecticut university last month was caused by a student carrying a portable light stand.
The report of a man with a long gun at Western Connecticut State University on Nov. 20 prompted a massive police response to the Danbury campus and a shelter-in-place order.
There were no reports of gunshots or injuries.
According to statement from the university Thursday, campus police reviewed security images and saw someone entering a building with the light stand. A student later carried the same piece of equipment past a classroom. A student in that classroom called 911 to report a man with a gun.
College President John Clark said he was “greatly relieved” by the report but urged the campus community to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
