WINDHAM, Vt. (AP) - The Windham School Board says it will wait to see the outcome of a lawsuit challenging Vermont’s Act 46 before taking action to close its elementary school.
Board Chair Carolyn Partridge said Monday that the school board is also interested to see if the state Legislature takes action as towns raise concerns about the school district consolidation law. The Brattleboro Reformer reports the Windham school board joined about 25 communities this fall to be part of the lawsuit.
The goal of Act 46, which Partridge herself had supported initially in her capacity as a Democratic state representative, was to save the state money because of declining enrollments across the state. She now says the goal is to slow down the process.
