OPINION:
The “yellow jacket” riots in Paris over French President Emmanuel Macron’s added gas tax demonstrate that many French who favor socialism, which results in monstrous government debt and high unemployment, are learning that the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s observation about socialism (it is fine until you run out of other people’s money), is indeed a truism, not a quip (“’Yellow jackets will triumph’: 133 injured, 412 arrested in Paris protest riot,” Web, Dec. 2).
One should remember former President Obama’s desire to raise the price of gasoline to prohibitive levels, as well as outgoing California Gov. Jerry Brown (“Governor Moonbeam”) and his raising of gas taxes.
As both an American and a Californian, I note that President Trump, who has his own challenges, by approving the Keystone Pipeline and encouraging fracking is enabling increased petroleum and natural gas production. This will lead the United States toward energy independence and supplying Europe with natural gas, enabling our allies there to be less dependent upon Russia and Vladimir Putin.
