WOLCOTT, Conn. (AP) - One swan is a-swimming again, just after Christmas.
A sick baby swan that was rescued from Hitchcock Lake in Wolcott, Connecticut last month has been returned to health and returned to its home.
The Republican-American reports the bird was rescued by firefighters on Nov. 24, after neighbors reported it was stuck in the icy water, flapping its wings, but unable to fly.
The swan was taken to the Kensington Bird and Animal Hospital in Berlin. Veterinarians discovered an upper respiratory infection, which they believe left the bird too weak to get airborne.
The swan spent time recovering in an aviary in Deep River, which is run by bird rehabilitator Grace Krick.
She released it back into Hitchcock Lake on Wednesday to rejoin its family.
