PITTSFORD, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont fire department may bill a woman who drove onto a closed flooded road and had to be rescued.
Pittsford Fire Chief Bill Hemple tells the Rutland Herald that crews responded Sunday afternoon to a driver who was stranded in Pittsford. Hemple says the woman had climbed to her car’s roof. Firefighters backed a utility truck up to the disabled vehicle and rescued the woman.
Hemple says the woman wasn’t injured. Authorities haven’t released the woman’s name.
State law allows rescue agencies to bill people who are rescued after disobeying road closures.
Hemple says he’s still considering whether he’ll fine the motorist. According to Hemple, the fine could exceed $1,000.
The fire department advised motorist to obey road signs in a Facebook post.
