PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities have identified a pedestrian who died after being struck by a car in southwest Phoenix.

Phoenix police say 60-year-old Manuel Villa Verde Jr. was taken to a hospital Saturday night and was pronounced dead.

They say Verde was struck while crossing Southern Avenue midblock near 39th Avenue around 6:45 p.m. Saturday.

Police say there didn’t appear to be a crosswalk at the intersection.

They say 47-year-old driver stayed at the scene following the crash and impairment isn’t consider a factor.

Authorities say it was the second fatal accident involving a pedestrian at that intersection since Nov. 27.
