WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - A former Hanes clothing company official has pleaded guilty to embezzlement in a deal with North Carolina prosecutors and sentenced to four to seven years in prison.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports 50-year-old Edward Hilton Graham was sentenced Friday by Forsyth County Superior Court Judge David L. Hall. Graham headed global licensing and partnerships for Hanesbrands from 2013 until his firing this year.
Prosecutors say he used company money to buy trips, gift cards and lease two New York apartments, costing Hanes $1.8 million.
Hall says he saw no sign of remorse in Graham. He ordered him to get psychological and psychiatric evaluation and treatment in prison.
David Freedman, one of Graham’s attorneys, says restitution by him will be more than $1 million, including around $400,000 in gift cards he’s returned.
