EDISON, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a clerk was shot and killed after handing over the cash drawer during a robbery at a gas station in New Jersey.
It happened around 4 a.m. Thursday at the Speedway gas station on Amboy Avenue in Edison.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey says the preliminary investigation reveals a male wearing a maroon-colored hoodie and dark mask entered the gas station with a handgun. The clerk, 38-year-old John Bertram of Woodbridge, gave the cash drawer to the suspect. The suspect fired one round, killing Bertram.
Authorities did not say how much money was taken.
The suspect remains at large.
