CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Equipment on a mountaintop in Wyoming recorded a wind gust well above hurricane force.

The National Weather Service says wind gusted up to 120 mph (193 kilometers per hour) in the Wyoming Range early Wednesday.

Hurricane-force is sustained wind above 74 mph (119 kilometers per hour).



K2 Radio reports the big gust happened at Mount Coffin Station on an almost 11,000-foot (3,350-meter) summit in west-central Wyoming.

Winds over 50 mph (80 kilometers per hour) blasted large areas of Wyoming on Wednesday.
